Code of Conduct

The Content Career Accelerator (CCA) is presented by Scott Kubie of kubie.co.

I’m committed to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone. Harassment of participants in any form will not be tolerated. Participants include all registered members, as well as any volunteers, guests, or other members of online communities related to this accelerator, now or in the future. This code of conduct applies to everyone who participates in CCA, and covers all live online sessions, online discussions, and other interactions between participants related to CCA. Anyone who violates this code of conduct may be sanctioned or expelled from an event or the community at my discretion. You are responsible for knowing and abiding by these rules.

Additionally, given the nature of this community, you are asked to assume a default expectation of privacy with regards to the stories and personal details that participants may share during the course of this program.

Harassment

Harassment includes:

  • Offensive comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, mental illness, neuro(a)typicality, physical appearance, body size, age, race, or religion.
  • Unwelcome comments regarding a person’s lifestyle choices and practices, including those related to food, health, parenting, drugs, and employment.
  • Deliberate misgendering or use of ‘dead’ or rejected names.
  • Gratuitous or off-topic sexual images or behaviour  in spaces where they’re not appropriate.
  • Physical contact and simulated physical contact (eg, textual descriptions like “*hug*” or “*backrub*”) without consent or after a request to stop.
  • Threats of violence.
  • Incitement of violence towards any individual, including encouraging a person to commit suicide or to engage in self-harm.
  • Deliberate intimidation.
  • Stalking or following.
  • Harassing photography or recording, including logging online activity for harassment purposes.
  • Sustained disruption of discussion.
  • Unwelcome sexual attention.
  • Patterns of inappropriate social contact, such as requesting/assuming inappropriate levels of intimacy with others.
  • Continued one-on-one communication after requests to cease.
  • Deliberate “outing” of any aspect of a person’s identity without their consent except as necessary to protect vulnerable people from intentional abuse.
  • Publication of non-harassing private communication.

I aim to prioritize marginalized people’s safety over privileged people’s comfort. I will not act on complaints regarding:

  • ‘Reverse’ -isms, including ‘reverse racism,’ ‘reverse sexism,’ and ‘cisphobia’
  • Reasonable communication of boundaries, such as “leave me alone,” “go away,” or “I’m not discussing this with you.”
  • Communicating in a ‘tone’ you don’t find congenial
  • Criticizing racist, sexist, cissexist, or otherwise oppressive behavior or assumptions

Reporting

If you are being harassed by a participant, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact Scott Kubie by emailing scott@kubie.co. I will respond as promptly as I can. I will respect confidentiality requests for the purpose of protecting victims of abuse. At my discretion, I may publicly name a person about whom I’ve received harassment complaints, or privately warn third parties about them, if I believe that doing so will increase the safety of participants, community members, or the general public. I will not name harassment victims without their affirmative consent.

Intellectual Property

Participants should respect the livelihoods and intellectual property of the people and companies who produce resources related to our disciplines, including authors, publishers, speakers, event organizers, coaches, and educators. Participants should not share access (such as log-ins and passwords) nor resources that they do not have permission to share, and should not ask nor encourage others to do so.

Examples of unacceptable behavior:

  • Uploading a copy of a paid ebook without permission to share it.
  • Sharing private links or passwords to access recordings from a paid conference with other participants.
  • Asking someone to share material or log-ins they do not have permission to share.

Examples of acceptable behavior:

  • Using materials you have permission to access to answer questions for others, including limited quotes or excerpts.
  • Sharing copyrighted material that a creator has explicitly made available for public consumption.
  • Sharing resources designed for public distribution.

Privacy

Participants are asked to treat all anecdotes, stories, and details shared by other participants as private information. Do not share anyone else’s story without their permission, even if you anonymize the details. Everyone’s story belongs to them.

Do not share screenshots or transcripts of community conversations, direct message conversations, or online events without the permission of those involved.

Do not use any information that participants share to solicit them without their permission (e.g. for a job opportunity) or share their information or employment status with any third-parties without their permission.

Consequences

Participants asked to stop any behavior violating this code of conduct are expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in any such behavior, I may take any action deemed appropriate, up to and including expulsion from an activity or the community. In some cases, the participant may also be identified as a harasser to other participants, community members, or the general public.
